NCAS Observations Data Workflows Overview

Getting data from sources to end-users can involve many steps along the way, which can become a burden for those involved and a barrier for access and re-use if not aided and coordinated.

To help with this, NCAS have developed a range of tools, standards and workflows to help reduce the burden, ease and speed up data flows and aid wider accessibility and data re-use.

Whilst there are technical details that underpin this work, the guides on this help site, along with access to NCAS staff to provide assistance, aim to provide easy to understand, easy to use workflows and introductions to tools to aid with this work and data use and assistance to make data flow from source to end-user.

These guides cover the basic data flows that are shown below:

The guides are given in two groups:

  1. A 10 step guide to data workflows - how to get set up with data flowing from source, capture important information and track your code for data delivery and what happens along the pipeline
  2. Quick User Guides for tools and standards - more (user-focused) detail on specific standards or tools that you'll encounter along the pipe line
